What are the ingredients in Skin Friend?

Skin Friend AM is a fine pure powder supplement that you mix into liquid or foods at breakfast or with a snack.

Skin Friend AM contains vitamin C and zinc which are necessary for minor wound healing. Zinc helps to maintain healthy skin and it plays a role in blood sugar regulation. We use vitamin C that is free of hidden sulfites, and our zinc does not contain hidden amines (two more reasons why our product took longer to launch). 

Skin Friend contains ingredients that support the health and function of the immune system. Contains pyridoxine (vitamin B6) which is involved in immune system processes. Vitamin B6 is also involved in DNA synthesis and hormone modulation. It's a great nutrient for the skin and it has a mid anti-histamine effect, especially when combine with vitamin C which is another natural anti-histamine nutrient.

Contains chromium which is a main component of glucose tolerance factor. Chromium is necessary for healthy blood sugar regulation and is involved in carbohydrate metabolism. We use the correct dosages for children and adults for all our ingredients, especially chromium as mega-doses can have the opposite effect. 

Contains vitamin B12 which is an essential growth factor. Vitamin B12 is essential for the normal functioning of all cells. Vitamin B12 also offers important nutritional support for vegetarians and vegans who may have low intake of vitamin B12.

Contains quality magnesium orotate (not poor quality magnesium oxide). Magnesium plays a necessary role in over 300 enzymatic reactions in the body. Magnesium is also involved in the synthesis of DNA and RNA. It's also known as the great relaxer!

Contains biotin, vitamin B2 and vitamin B6 – nutritional deficiencies in these B vitamins can cause eczema and dermatitis. This well established research had been confirmed since the 1950s - we have just forgotten about it (see our previous blog post on biotin). 

Molybdenum is required by the body to detoxify sulphites, which is a preservative that worsens eczema in more than 50 percent of people with eczema (this preservative statistic is from RPA Hospital Allergy Unit research). This mineral is important for people with eczema and we use molybdenum which is free of hidden additives, and in the correct dosages for children and adults. 

FAQ: "What does Skin Friend AM taste like?"

This product is herb-free so the Skin Friend AM supplement is pleasant tasting and mixes easily into liquids or foods. It's great in smoothies, rice milk and vegie juice but my daughter and I like it mixed into a small amount of chilled water (the no-fuss approach). It does not contain any flavourings but we think it tastes mildly sweet and a bit like weak orange juice when mixed into water, thanks to the vitamin C powder.

Calcium plays a role in neurotransmitter and hormone release and storage, and calcium activates various enzyme systems and enzyme reactions. Calcium is also involved in the development and maintenance of the bones and teeth. However, that is not why it's in Skin Friend. 

Calcium also promotes normal healthy sleep, and it promotes a healthy acid mantle in the skin, which is vital to help protect your skin against microbes (eczema sufferers are often sensitive to dust mites). 

Some eczema sufferers are sensitive to citric acid (found in calcium citrate) so we use a very fine, pure powder calcium carbonate instead of citrate. 

FAQ: "How does it taste?"

Skin Friend PM (the afternoon supplement in the Skin Friend kit), has no flavour and it is super fine so it mixes into food and drinks without detection (it is detectable in water so for small children it's best taken in rice milk, smoothies etc). You can even use it in baking so your child does not know they are taking a supplement. My daughter and I like it in a small amount of chilled water (the quick, no-fuss approach).
